Churchill Villa

Positioned between the sea and the city skyline of Auckland, this building has been designed to carefully frame the beauty of the local coastline beyond the foliage of the indigenous flora and fauna. The unique structure celebrates the materiality of timber and woodcraft construction with traditional workshop detailing. The large posts and beams combine to create an atmospherically double-height living room which acts as the circular center of the entire building.

Well positioned louvers allow for a spectrum of sun light which cast into the interior spaces to create strong a hue of different contrasts around the building. Open fully to the outdoors, the serenity of the landscape becomes encapsulated by the architecture and forms the most important and intricate part of this house.
