The Ascot

Positioned directly along Ascot Avenue in Remuera, The Ascot is a striking triplex development comprising six residences, aligned in deliberate symmetry beside the calm green expanse of a neighbouring park. With a bold monochromatic palette of black-stained timber cladding set against matte white brick, the architecture is unapologetically linear and precisely sculpted. The façade composition is rigorously structured, emphasizing rhythm and repetition across the two mirrored volumes. Black vertical battens introduce a sense of sharpness and graphic clarity, while white brick planes anchor the buildings with tactile solidity. Together, they create a visual language that is both minimal and dramatic, coolly refined without slipping into sterility.

Each home is arranged to make full use of the western orientation, with upper level living areas opening onto deep balconies that project toward the treetops of the park. These outdoor spaces become essential extensions of daily life, a place to unwind with a glass of wine as the sun drops low over the horizon, or to fold laundry in warm afternoon light. The integration of these moments into the architecture is seamless, enhancing the liveability without disrupting the project's strict formal order.

"Internally, the spaces continue the language of clarity: open plans, long horizontal sightlines, and natural light that moves cleanly through the project. Materiality is subtle and deliberate, allowing proportion and shadow to shape the atmosphere. In a suburb characterised by its heritage homes and traditional streetscapes, The Ascot presents a striking counterpoint—modern, composed, and spatially astute. It neither recedes nor clamours for attention, but stands with quiet confidence, leaving a lasting imprint on its place.
